As of Late

This past week, and the whole summer, really, has been SO hot! Even attempting to go running, play tennis, or even go outdoors is a big effort. Hopefully this heat wave will pass, but for now, I am enjoying the small things.

Urban Spoon: Des Moines

If you have not heard of the app Urban Spoon, it is used to find restaurants around you. It is a great tool to use when you are out of town. I decided to put one of my personal favorite places up on the blog. If you live near by, I would highly recommend visiting Heavenly Delight, an ice cream shop in Grimes. It is the best hole-in-the-wall place that I have come across, and I thought I would share it with you all!

Trend Alert

The current trend of the month is rocking the sock bun. Even though with poor execution they can look wimpy, when perfected, they look amazing. If you are feeling courageous and want to try this, I would recommend looking up some videos about ‘How to Make a Sock Bun’ online. Also make sure that you use a sock that is similar to your hair color- you don’t want to be that girl with jet black hair and have bits of white sock shining through your bun.

What to Wear With Your LBD

What to Wear With Your LBD: Casual

What to Wear With Your LBD

A black dress can be interpreted a thousand different ways, and that is what I love about them. One black dress can be worn for going to the grocery store, a dinner party, a GNO, or simply for lounging around. Thank you, Coco Chanel, for bringing LBDs into the fashion world! Without them, I’m not sure what we would do! This is one of the few items that every woman should own at least one of. If you do not have an LBD, you need to do two things:
1. Go shopping and get one!
2. Wear it multiple times in one week to ‘break it in’ and get the stylish creativity flowing.

Weekend Encounters

This past weekend I caught up with friends I hadn’t seen in a while, finished my book series, made a list of to-dos (sigh), and relaxed. Nothing major happened, but it was just what I needed. I found this ‘Simple Diary’ at Anthropologie a few months back, and it sort of fun! The pages consist of asking silly questions about your day. I try to fill out a page a day, but you know how that goes… I also had some down time to read Lauren Conrad’s book, Style, for the umpteenth time. I am so inspired by her and her style. Hopefully some day I can write a book that is similar to hers in the fact that it is about style and beauty. I am loving that star fish ring and the other necklaces. I will definitely be trying to incorporate them into my outfits sometime in the near future. Have a great Monday!
